Story
Bionic Commando (NES)
In the NES version, the Federation sent Ladd Spencer to rescue Super Joe from the enemy forces, and he also stopped Master-D and Albatros.
Bionic Commando (Game Boy)
Similar to the NES version, in the Game Boy version Rad Spencer was sent to rescue Super Joe and stop the enemy forces.
Bionic Commando Rearmed and sequels
In Bionic Commando Rearmed, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, and Bionic Commando (2009), Nathan "Rad" Spencer is a founding member of the "Bionic Commandos".
After losing his arm in a grenade explosion early in the founding of the FSA, he was assigned to the TASC Research and Development Division, where he became the first test subject for bionic military technology.
When TASC spy Joseph "Super Joe" Gibson was captured by the Imperial Army during a reconnaissance mission, Spencer was transferred from the Research and Development Division to TASC's "Bionic Commandos" Special Forces and assigned to rescue him. Spencer not only rescued Gibson from an Imperial POW camp, but also destroyed Albatross, a giant weapon that the Empire had just launched at the time. With the great success from his mission, Spencer became a hero.
Some years later, during Operation Blackout, Major Spencer disobeyed direct orders from his superiors on a mission that resulted in the deaths of several TASC agents. Spencer was dishonorably discharged, court-martialed, convicted of treason, and sentenced to death under the claim he was conspiring to commit treason against the state. Spencer has spent five years on death row awaiting execution, and the result of Operation Blackout led to the Bionic Purge.
Due to the bombing of Ascension City, Spencer has been temporarily reinstated and sent in to investigate, with Gibson promising that in exchange he will investigate the whereabouts of Emily Spencer.
